  Introducing… ATD NYC Co-work and Connect! A program designed to help TD professionals get together, crush some work, and meet.

  
  

  Why Co-work and Connect?

  In today's world of work, TD professionals often face two key challenges:

  • Lack of time and energy for deep, focused work.

  • Limited opportunities to connect with professionals outside their teams and organizations.

  This program is designed to tackle both, providing an ongoing structured setting for attendees to get things done together before the work week is out—then celebrate with a little socialization.

  When is it?

  Every other Friday in August from 1:00 to 2:30 pm EST (and future months), beginning August 8th.

  Who will you meet?

  Talent development professionals from NYC and beyond, looking to work together, support each other's work, and connect with others.

  How does it work?
  1. Welcome & Intentions (15 min)
  

  • You join the meeting, introduce yourself to everyone in chat, and are quickly placed into a breakout group with 2-4 others.
  • You briefly introduce yourself to your group mates (e.g., name, role, org, interests) and set your intention for the co-working session (e.g., finish a project proposal, write a LinkedIn post, research a topic).

  2. Co-working Sprint (45 min)
  

  • You work on what you intended to do, surrounded by other focused colleagues.
  • You can choose to leave your cameras on for accountability or turn them off for focus time.

  3. Check-In & Reflection (15 min)
  

  • You reconvene with your groupmates to discuss how things went (e.g., progress made, key learnings or takeaways, challenges encountered, next steps).
  • People may offer feedback or advice based on their knowledge and experiences if you request.

  4. Networking & Wrap-Up (15 min)
  

  • You end by getting to know one another a bit more and bonding over shared interests.
  • You might also arrange a time schedule for follow-up 1:1s to connect or discuss your work in more detail.
  • You and your group return to the main room to mingle for a few more minutes with others and then depart.

  Zoom details are sent upon registration (and in reminders) via e-mail; we welcome you to add these directly to your calendar hold if not already populated.

  For those who have registered for prior sessions, the Zoom link remains the same month to month. However, please do register for each month for the purposes of accurate attendance.

  Can't attend all sessions? That's OK! Register for the monthly series and come to the ones you can!

  About This Event

  Liberating Structures is a best-of collection of group facilitation techniques that spark creativity, connection, and full-group engagement. In this active session, you’ll experience several key tools that help groups collaborate more effectively, surface new ideas, and build shared understanding. Whether you're designing a learning session, leading change, or just want to engage people more meaningfully, this workshop gives you easy, immediately usable strategies for any group. The Liberating Structures methodology is great to layer on for those with lots of experience working with groups, but also acts as a gateway to those who are new to facilitation and group engagement.

  About Our Presenters

  Lee Gimpel | President, Better Meetings

  

  Lee Gimpel helps organizations design and deliver more engaging, connected, and effective trainings, conferences, and retreats. He is the founder of Better Meetings, a Washington, DC-based firm that provides professional facilitation, meeting skills training, and conference design. His work blends adult learning, group facilitation, and human-centered design to strengthen collaboration, capability, and culture.

  Lee previously worked at a national training firm and in knowledge management at Capital One. Clients have included the World Bank, U.S. Treasury, Sodexo, and National Association of Realtors. He created the Conference Improvement Kit and produced the Conference Organizers Summit. He leads the DC community of practice for Liberating Structures and serves on the board of the Association of Meeting Professionals. A contributing expert for Forbes, Lee is also widely quoted in other media including USA Today, Convene, MeetingsNet, and The Guardian.

  Join us for our first ATD NYC Design Day, a community event where talent development meets compassion! This inspiring collaboration brings together innovative professionals across talent development, learning, and instructional design to give back to the local community and create solutions for local non-profits & social causes.

  
  

  This year, we are excited to partner with the Jersey City Free Public Library (JCFPL) to further their purpose of putting community first.

  What to Expect

  In this two-week hybrid program, you'll collaborate four times with a team of like-minded individuals to tackle real, current JCFPL challenges in areas such as: Onboarding strategy; Learning measurement; Customer service training; and Change management plans.
