Talent Development For Community Impact
Hybrid Virtual + In-person Initiative | July 7-25, 2026
About the program
Design Day brings together nonprofit community-based organizations, ATD NYC members, and emerging professionals to apply talent development expertise to real community needs. In direct collaboration with professionals in our network (like you!), nonprofit partners develop tailored tools, resources, and learning solutions designed to support their team and mission.
about our community partner
This year, we are excited to partner with the Center for Immigrant Education and Training (CIET) at LaGuardia Community College to deepen the practice of the Education Case Managers (ECMs) who support their adult immigrant students in pursuit of their career and educational goals.
CIET is an award-winning provider of English, civics, citizenship, and family literacy programs for English Language Learners in Western Queens. The program is grant-funded, and all ESL classes are free and designed to serve low-income immigrants. CIET's programs exist as a place for students to learn English while they learn about resources to help themselves, their families, and their communities.
What to expect
In this three-week hybrid program, you'll be part of a diverse team of experienced and emerging talent development professionals to develop a set of resources that ECMs can use to develop Individual Development Plans that drive clarity, motivation, and outcomes for the students they support.
Under the leadership of a core team of seasoned talent development professionals, you and your fellow team members will support CIET to:
- Strengthen the workforce development capabilities and coaching skills of their staff
- Support their ECMs in developing their ability to adapt their coaching to the evolving career and education landscape in NYC
- Enable ECMs and immigrant students to engage in data-informed career pathing practices
- Improve confidence and educational outcomes for adult immigrant students in NYC
WHo should participate
If you have enthusiasm around topics like career development, needs assessment, coaching, or change management, this is the program for you!
No matter your level of experience or expertise, we want you to join us if you feel called to inspired your talent development expertise to directly impact our community here in NYC!
WHAT YOU WILL GAIN
Not only will you give back to your community, but you'll also expand your network, gain consulting experience that you can add to your portfolio, and see your ideas implemented in the real world. With mentors and industry experts on hand (and delicious bites provided on the on-site day), Design Day is a chance to use your talents for positive change.
the time commitment
Participation as a team member is a 10-hour "live" time commitment (6 hours virtual, 4 hours on-site at LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City). Additional hours of asynchronous contributions are at the discretion of individual team members and their capacity.
This is a fully volunteer program and we are grateful for the generosity of our community that makes it possible. That we can count on our volunteers to follow through on the time commitment is essential to the success of the program and overall experience. Please join us if you are interested and available on all four program dates.
